Some fun facts for you:
  • In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

  • Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, though on June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday.

  • The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy, NY.

  • The 50 stars represent the 50 states and the 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies who rebelled against Great Britain.

  • Nicknames for the flag include Stars and Stripes, Old Glory, the American flag, and the Star-Spangled Banner.

  • The flag has been changed 26 times since the original in 1777. The current version has been in use since 1960.
